At wenti's house (in Sibu)

The boys loved it at wenti's house. She has lots of toys and she shares them with the boys.
they didn't want to leave.
We look forward to our next visit back to Sibu.

Lao pa sat

 

 

 

 

We took a taxi to lao pa sat from chinatown.
We had satays, char kuay teow and fried clams.
it was pouring and noel got kinda lost in the lao pa sat!
fortunately a kind waiter uncle helped him.

Chinatown - SIngapore

After Sibu, we went to Singapore. The first place that we visited were Chinatown.

The shophouses still retains its olden day looks and souvenir stalls aplenty.

we were constantly drenched by our own sweat, thanks to the humdity.  Here, chilling out with a coconut drink.

the boys love foam stickers.  I got them from the dollar shop and brought some craft popsicle sticks with me during the trip. THey came handy as they made puppets and art work.

Nightmare came after they finished ie. picking up the white bits of the stickers.

Satay from Taman Muhhibah

We managed to bag home some satays from Taman Muhhibah.  The chap's satay ran out ever so quickly. I managed to snap a pic before all the satays were gone.

Dinner @ Nice House Restaurant

A few years back, we had dinner here and it was very nice. So we decided to go back. It was Ching MIng Festival when we were there, so SIbu was choke a block with people. We  bumped into everyone everywhere in town. Anyhow, we were going to have family portraits taken at Arts Friends so the most logical place to have dinner was Nice House. We made reservation in the afternoon, and it was so full they could only put us upstairs. Above we tried the duck with plum sauce thingie. Verdict: the duck eater amongst us did not really like it. the Meat was a little dry.  

Kangkung was a bit of a let down. I mean seriously, both mom and my MIl can stir fry a meaner one than this.

Lemon chicken - it was okay

Tofu soup - it was rather nice.

Hong shau Fish head and yam - mom provided the fish head for the resutant, and said she liked to have it cooked with yam. The twist is she will also provide the yam! The restaurant was not going to take her yam but after much persuading they relented!

the Midin (ferns) dish.This is a safe dish. If a restaurant cannot cook this dish, they have to seriously check themselves out.

Here's the homegrown yam! It's a 'pi long' wo! it really does taste wicked compared to some of the ones I have in Auckland!

Note: It is true not to eat at a restaurant when it is at its peak capacity. Not only the waiting time is long but the dish also might not be as good as it usually is.

NOodle HOuse

Noodle house was packed and it ran out of its famous kampua on sizzling plate.
jake was not a happy chap. We nevertheless had the mille cake and the fried kompia and various other dishes.

Noel and his chicks

This is the 3rd last day we were in Sibu.  We went to High street and showed Noel where grandpa bought his chicks.  First, Noel opened the lid.

Next he tried to touch the chick.

And he touched the chicks.

He watched the auntie chose nearly a dozen to bring home.

Supper @ Bandung

We went to Bandung for supper one night with cc. To think that Bandung was one of the 'it' place in the 90s. now it's pretty quiet at night time.

 

We also had the thai grill squid and fish.

hm.. it was a bit of a let down taste wise. we might not go back there next time.

Breakfast from Bandung Stall

 

Before we went back to Sibu, Jake frequented lots of food blog to find out where to eat various food. After all, our theme for the holiday was 'jalan-jalan cari makan'. One of the blog he frequented was Suituapui.
STP has been writing heaps about the kampung bandung stalls.

So one morning Jake went to the bandung stall with my dad to buy breakfast.
And here's what he got us, the nasi lemak, and all the kuehs in the pic below.
and coincidentally, he met STP himself at the stall :)

Starry starry night @ Starry Thai

We got a voucher from R for jake's birthday. SO we went to the city to have our thai dinner.
For entre,we tried the satay chicken. It was pretty nice.

Next, we had the soup, the portion was small but tastewise was okay.

Jake had the duck curry.

This is the other soup we chose.

I chose the sizzling rack of lamb.

For dessert, we had the deep friend ice-cream.

Verdict: Tastes okay but portion was on the small side.
