Dinner at Ming Mei Shi

We were in Sibu for 9 days.  So nearly every day, mom and dad wants to bring us to 'eating places' around Sibu. One of them was Ming Mei Shi (MMS), off Rejang Medical Centre.
The restaurant is owned by the chef of now defunct Blue Splendour.

Anyhow, it was jammed pack and guess who we bumped into. Alf and family, his dad, sister, brothers and their family.

We had the curry fish head. Pretty nice. Curry was more on the sweet side rather than spicy.
 

Next was the okras (ladies finger) with dried shrimps and mum and dad also ordered the wet noodles for the boys.

Haircut and balloons

Abel also got his hair cut. He was very reluctant to have his hair cut (note his facial expression in one of the pic) Even with the balloons, he didn't want to sit on the hairdressing chair. He subsequently fell asleep and had his hair cut in his sleep.

Noel getting haircut at my cousin's in Sibu. He was so excited as my cousin put glitters and temporary fudge and in the evening refused to shower because he'd worried his glitter might be washed off .

Conversation with 2.5 years old

This is a conversation between Abel and me:

Abel: I know where clock lives.

Me: Where? 

Abel: On the wall.

Me: (thinking, how very profound:P )

Abel: I know where car lives.

Me: Where?

Abel: On the road.

Abel: Where does Bob Builder lives?  (Abel tends to shorten words or names, so Bob Builder should be Bob the Builder)

Me: Where?

Abel: Don't know.

Me: In his house?

Jalan-jalan Cari Makan - Sibu

This is the 'siew mai'/'sio bee' Sibu version. They are very different from the HK version. This is best eaten piping hot.

The mandatory Char Mein -Wet version

This is something new. Kampua with fried chicken. My verdict, it's pretty tasty but I must prefer the traditional version with the thin slice of char siew pork.

This is the kueh we had at the Market @ Tmn Universiti . When we wanted to go and buy somemore, they were sold out already.

Black Chicken Noodle - the Chicken were kinda spicy, almost like curry but with soy sauce instead of curry powder, hence the name.

This Apam was quite a rip off and had corns in it, I think it was 3 for RM3 and you could eat a very decent bowl of kari mee for Rm3.50 around the area. The uncle was selling it from his makeshift motorbike thingie.

Double flavour rice with braised egg. YUM!!

Mee Kari - It's like Young Tau fu with noodles. I picked and chose my own 'young tau fu' veggies etc in the bowl and then gave it to the operator to cook for me.
Some of the foods were eaten from the coffee shops near Giant and the Mee Kari and the Black Chicken Noodle is eaten near the Market area.

I am pretty sure I took a lot more photos of all the foods but some either have disappeared or I cannot locate them anymore..

Balik Kampung 2012

Finally I could blog about our trip back home in late March / April. Before take off, we were exploring the auckland airport and noel wanted a picture with the all blacks uniforms.

 We used Jetstar and survived. :P Just to give you an idea, this is what it looks like inside. No-frills and pay as you go.  It was an afternoon flight, so need to entertain the boys more. Somehow, Noel turned into a bottomless pit during the flight and kept asking for food!  We arrived at night and 5 very kindly waited for us in JB and that's our first stop, visiting the Yeongs :) hehehe E was at home with Baby Ivan and we had real late supper.

Next morning, while I chit chat with E, the boys ventured out to the nearby park (a stroll away from the Yeong's residence)

 

 

 

The boys were drenched in their sweat when they got home.
